Grand AffairEP Review: A Nostalgic Alt-Rock Gem with Modern Bite
Formed in the summer of 2023, WineMom began as a half-serious idea between frontwoman Rosanna Harrington and bassist Millie Molony to start an all-girl band. That vision quickly evolved when drummer Reese Martin proved too good to pass up, stepping in to anchor the rhythm section. Lead guitarist Matthew Marshall, a Galway native with a jazz background rounded out the now perfectly balanced quartet.
Fast forward to 2026, and WineMom are no longer a what if
project - they’re one of the most exciting rising names in the Irish alt-rock scene. Over the past year, they’ve taken on major stages across Ireland and the UK, even supporting alt-rock icons Jane’s Addiction on the final night of a European tour. Add a nationwide run with Irish folk-rock trailblazers Kingfishr, and it’s clear the band’s momentum is only building.
Grand AffairEP: 90s Alt-Rock Meets 60s Melody
Listening to Grand Affair, you’d be forgiven for thinking WineMom were pulled straight out of a 90s alternative rock time capsule. Their sound leans into that era’s grit and structure while weaving in unmistakable 60s-inspired melodies, giving the EP a warm, nostalgic edge.
Rosanna Harrington’s vocals are the glue throughout - delivering catchy, earworm hooks that linger long after each track ends. There’s a subtle blend of pop and soul beneath the alt-rock surface, adding depth without losing immediacy.
The EP opens with He Was So Kind
, easing listeners in with a dreamy guitar intro before bursting into a chugging rhythm soaked in chorus effects. It’s atmospheric but grounded, setting the tone perfectly.
Next up, Way Of Life
leans into a more anthemic direction, driven by a big, sing-along chorus that feels tailor-made for live shows.
The title track, Grand Affair
, is the EP’s centerpiece - upbeat, confident, and propelled by a stomping beat that captures the band’s energy at full force.
Closing track Everest
shifts gears into something heavier, hinting at a darker sonic palette. There’s even a subtle nod to the Stevie Nicks-era Fleetwood Mac sound, blending mystique with punch.
Grand Affair
Speaking about the title track, Harrington explains:
Towards the end of last year during the Christmas period, when family gatherings often bring questions about work and life. As an independent musician, I found myself thinking about how to explain my path compared with others' achievements. That inspired the song, which reflects on how our twenties don't always turn out the way you expected.
It’s this honesty that gives Grand Affair
its emotional core. Beneath the polished hooks and retro influences lies a relatable reflection on uncertainty, ambition, and carving out your own path.
With Grand Affair
, WineMom strike a balance between nostalgic alt-rock textures and fresh, modern songwriting. It’s an EP that feels both familiar and new - packed with memorable hooks, strong identity, and just enough edge to stand out in a crowded indie scene.
This release makes one thing clear: WineMom are only getting started.
