Cable Boy unleash Something In My Head
as Dublin rockers gear up for debut album

Dublin rockers Cable Boy first popped up on the radar back in 2019 with their debut EP Whole
, before being hit head-on by lockdown. Instead of hitting pause, the band used the downtime to reshape themselves entirely. New members were brought into the fold, the sound got heavier and hazier, and Cable Boy emerged on the other side as a shoegaze-leaning, darkly danceable beast they neatly describe as goth disco.
Fast forward to 2025 and Cable Boy have been anything but quiet. They’ve spent the year tearing through venues up and down the country, including a slot at Dublin’s Vicar Street, alongside festival appearances at Beyond the Pale and Forbidden Fruit. Clearly, the live circuit has been good to them.
Between gigs, the band have also been holed up in the studio putting the finishing touches on their long-awaited debut album. Singles Let’s Go
and Purple
turned plenty of heads last year, and now, with the album release edging closer, they’ve dropped Something In My Head, the third cut from the record.
From the opening seconds, Something In My Head
doesn’t hang about. A snarling riff and thrashing guitars kick things off before the vocals crash in, giving the track a gritty, almost-live feel. It’s raw but controlled, with synths weaving through the chaos to create a sharp blend of punk urgency and pop smarts, anchored by a hook that sticks around long after the song ends.
Something in my Head is about watching and absorbing life changing news everyday on every single social media app and feeling powerless to do anything but watch. The chorus is a response to the verse; ‘I can be cool just where I am, weather is cooler where I stand, keeping it cool, that’s who I am’ is a tongue in cheek comment on how we absorb these things as artists; being aware but also not really doing anything.- Semi (vocals)
With Something In My Head
, Cable Boy sound locked in, louder, and more confident than ever, and if this is a sign of what’s coming on the debut album, it’s well worth paying attention.
