Prepare Your Press-kit

The first thing you need to do is start putting together your Electronic Press Kit.

Your press kit is your musical CV that makes it easy for venues, promoters, blogs, and more, to access and review your music quickly.

Don't over do it with information. You are one of many artist looking to promote your music. Keep it simple and include images, links to your music and a couple of paragraphs talking about the inspiration and recording process etc.

The most important thing to remember when looking for music promotion is that you are one of many. Music promoters are in the business of making money and you need the service they provide. Keep your Press Kit simple and relevant to the music you are releasing currently.

Search Online

With music being consumed online it really doesnt matter where your promoter is based. Sure you can see if there is a local music promoter in your area, but its now possible to connect to music promoters anywhere in the world.

Do a little research online and find out what other artists are doing. Check out some locals bands or other musicans who are similar to your music and find out which music promoter's they work with.

Play Live

Music promotion is a big business and as a result music reps are out and about every night of the week looking for new artists.

Find a venue in your area that focuses on original music. Avoid venues that feature coverbands, music reps avoid them also.

Link up with some musicans and ask if you can be their opening act. Get yourself seen and known. You never know who might be in the crowd.

Dont be afraid to travel outside of town for gigs. Towns and cities that have a college or university also tend to have venues which focus on original music. A music promoter wont travel the length of the country to find you, you need to find them.

With a number of gigs under your belt you can also put this information into your Press Kit.
