VERA stir up Belfast’s Alt scene with latest single

Creating a buzz across Belfast's alt scene, VERA are the kind of band that refuses to sit in one box, mixing indie grit tangled up with pop hooks, R&B smoothness, and a sharp alt-rock bite. It’s a combo made for sweaty venues, loud nights, and emotions running high.

Their earlier releases have already picked up plenty of attention (and a healthy dose of radio play), and now the band is back with their latest single, Ketchup.

Driven by punchy keys and a swagger-heavy bassline, Ketchup has that classic VERA mix of wit, sarcasm, and vulnerable storytelling. By the end, it swells into a gospel-style choral moment that feels both powerful and refreshing. Lyrically, it’s a fiery confession, messy, raw, and soaked in the emotional aftermath of a breakup.

Ketchup isn't a song about a real experience. The visual image of having Ketchup stains all down my shirt is sort of a character thing... I imagine someone sat eating a burger alone in some sleazy diner despairing about their relationship and what to do to get out of it, but knowing deep down they're not going anywhere. I think the image of a mess you've made yourself stuck in my head. Not to say I haven't been in that situation myself... but I think we all get Ketchup stains down our shirts now and again. - Sarah Toner
