Anamoe Drive’s new single blurs the lines between projects

Music Review | 22nd Aug, 2025 Anamoe Drive’s Anamoe Drive’s

Oisín Leahy Furlong, the creative mind behind Anamoe Drive and frontman of Dublin’s psych-pop powerhouse THUMPER, has just done something pretty unique. His latest single, The Rip, exists in two worlds at once: as a delicate, introspective solo track and as a full-throttle THUMPER tune.

This is the first time one of his songs has crossed over between both projects, and the result is fascinating.

At first I thought it was an anamoe drive song, then it was transformed into a THUMPER song, and afterwards I felt compelled to document it in its original form. In a way it's the perfect song to articulate both aggression and tenderness, maybe in triangulating both moods you can work your way back to the feeling of that night.

And he’s not exaggerating about the contrast. The Anamoe Drive version is stripped back and hauntingly soft, think gentle strummed guitars, plucked strings, and layered vocals that wash over you like a lullaby. The THUMPER version, on the other hand, hits with heavy basslines, crunchy guitars, and pounding drums, flipping the song into something much bigger and wilder.

Lyrically The Rip details the same night, in the same bar, falling in love with the same person, this time from a very insular perspective.

The Rip is the second single taken from Anamoe Drives sophomore album Thank God Its Friday which will be released on 7th Nov ahead of it's launch shows at The Grand Social Ballroom in Dublin on Thurs 13th Nov and Servant Jazz Quarters in London on Mon 17th Nov.
