Formed in Drogheda, Ireland, Disko Volante consists of vocalist and bass player Ellen O'Reilly, a sought-after session musician who has worked with artists such as Kate Nash, Sarah Harding, and Irish Women in Harmony. Upon returning to Ireland after a stint in the UK, O'Reilly teamed up with Deggs Curran (drums and backing vocals) and Ross Leahy (guitar) to form Disko Volante
. The trio's unique blend of rock, funk, and pop delivers a fresh and energetic sound.
The latest single from the three-piece is Wannabes, a track packed with punchy, funky guitar chords, tight riffs, and heavy basslines layered over a solid beat. O'Reilly’s vocals shine—especially when paired with the harmonies in the chorus.
Lyrically, Wannabes
deals with the frustration of not hearing back from promoters, radio DJs, Spotify playlists, and venues. Tackling a number of issues musicians face, the band asks: Do you find yourself reaching out to bands that play other people’s music just to generate some fan interest? Does the idea of making a living from creating your own music seem completely impossible? Do you feel you have to become an Instagram content creator—hoping that something takes off and leads to more opportunities?
Speaking about the new single, Ellen O'Reilly says;
WANNABES, it is one of the best tracks we have ever released.....listen, don't listen – who cares?
WANNABES
was produced by Stuart Gray of Jealoustown Studios, who has worked with industry legends such as Aslan, Picture House, Gavin James, and Don Baker. The same high production quality and innovative sound are evident in WANNABES, showcasing Disko Volante's evolution and artistry.
The single, Wannabes, is available through all streaming platforms.
