Diveboy New Name, Same Indie Fire — Meet the Band Formerly Known as The Burma

Music Review | 27th July, 2025 Diveboy Diveboy

Big news from the Irish indie-rock scene, The Burma is no more… sort of. Tony O'Donovan (vocals), Peter Piggott (lead guitar), and Cian Doherty (drums) are back with a fresh new name, Diveboy, and a shiny new single to match.

Their debut track under the new moniker, Suntrap, is everything fans loved about The Burma, upbeat, guitar-driven, and wrapped in shimmering, sun-drenched textures, but with a slightly more refined, modern edge. It's nostalgic and fresh, the kind of track that feels equally at home blasting from a car stereo or filling a festival field.

Despite the rebrand, Diveboy isn’t straying far from their roots. The band already boasts two Top 5 albums on the Irish charts and five Homegrown Top 20 singles. They're not hitting reset — they’re leveling up.

Diveboy have set their sights on stadium-filling sounds to match. They say:

When we sat down to write, we asked ourselves where we imagined playing. The answer was bigger rooms, arenas and stadiums! We wanted to create a sound that would fill the 3Arena or Wembley Stadium. Then Ruadhrí Cushnan brought a fresh approach and perspective to the way we recorded our songs and he was a joy to work with.

Lyrically, Suntrap takes aim at our obsession with digital approval and the curated happiness we perform for the ‘gram. Cashing in your double taps / Look at me, I’m just as bad, they sing, striking that perfect balance between catchy and clever. It’s self-aware, biting, and totally on-brand.

Commenting on the name change on their Instagram, the band wrote:

We've just finished recording our third studio album. As we move into an exciting new period for the band, we've decided to change our name. This is something we've considered for a while and now feels like the perfect time.

Suntrap was produced by Grammy Award-winner Ruadhrí Cushnan (Ed Sheeran, Mumford and Sons, Snow Patrol, Shawn Mendes).
