Step Into the Time Machine: Soft Hearted Scientists drop latest track

Music Review | 13th July, 2025 Soft Hearted Scientists Soft Hearted Scientists

Soft Hearted Scientists are a band that kind of fall under the psychedelic umbrella — not in a strict sense, but more because they mix tons of sounds and instruments to create this vivid, technicolour vibe. Think swirling guitars, old-school keyboards, quirky sound effects, all designed to whisk you away somewhere better, whether it's through a punchy 3-minute tune or a sprawling 10-minute journey.

Their influences are all over the place: The Beatles, Beach Boys, The Kinks, The Beta Band, early Super Furry Animals, even 1940s big band stuff and electronic music. Basically, if it sounds cool, it goes into the SHS blender. Nothing’s off-limits.

Before they drop their new double album The Phantom of Canton, Soft Hearted Scientists are giving us a taste with Hello Hello. The track is soaked in '60s vibes — jangly guitars, dreamy psychedelic harmonies, that classic 12-string electric folk-rock-pop feel. There’s a wall of sound going on, with Moog synths and all sorts of trippy sound effects woven throughout.

Lyrically, Hello Hello reflects on the need to rise above constant negativity and cynicism and spend time doing the things we like with the people we like. Pretty obvious stuff but so easy to forget in the daily grind, and the hideous stress of modern life and daily horrors going on in the world.
