Dublin band Ultras are turning noise into an art form

Music Review | 4th Oct, 2025 Ultras Ultras

Built around loud guitars, even louder drums, and a shared obsession with swapping instruments mid-set, Dublin’s Ultras are crashing their way into the Irish rock scene, and making it impossible not to notice.

The band first came together through MyBand, a local music program run by Beardfire Recording Studio. They bonded over covers of rock legends, a few shared cigarettes, and that unspoken yep, we’re onto something feeling. From there, it’s been full speed ahead.

Their debut single, With The Sound, dropped in early 2025 and made serious waves, earning airplay across Ireland, the UK, Europe, and even the US, plus multiple Spotify playlists.

Now, Ultras are back with a new banger, Who Did It?, a dark, cinematic and unapologetically guitar-driven. Think pounding drums, melodic riffs, and an indie-anthem chorus that sticks in your head long after it’s over. Lyrically, it hits that sweet spot between rebellion and growing up, that tug-of-war between wanting to burn it all down and learning to play the game.

Sonically and visually, Who Did It? takes a noir-inspired approach. The song swings between defiant energy and a haunting refrain:

Close the case lil boy, everyone knows who did it.

The accompanying video turns the tension up another notch, lovers become killers in a shadowy forest, blurring the lines between passion, identity, and fate. It’s eerie, beautiful, and totally gripping, a perfect reflection of Ultras’ growing edge as one of the most exciting new acts in Irish rock.
