If you've spent any time on YouTube, you've probably noticed that some creators don't stick to the topic that made them popular in the first place. A channel might start out reviewing music, reacting to songs, or talking about pop culture, and then slowly move into politics and current events. In my view, music reaction videos are a great way to attract younger viewers because they're fun, easy to watch, and don't feel political. Once people subscribe and start trusting the creator, it's much easier to introduce them to other topics.
That's why I find the story of County Gains interesting. In the early days, the channel was mainly known for music reactions and reviews. A lot of the content focused on rap music, independent artists, and popular songs. People watched because they enjoyed seeing genuine reactions and hearing the creator's thoughts on different tracks. At that stage, the channel felt more like entertainment than political commentary.
Over time, though, the focus of the channel seemed to change. Music content became less central, while videos about politics, culture, and current events became more common. In my opinion, this wasn't unique to County Gains. Across YouTube and other social media platforms, right-wing
themed content was becoming more popular and generating far more engagement than music reviews. As that trend grew, County Gains appeared to move in the same direction.
Citizen Journalist- Fear And Disinformation
One thing that stands out is how much attention right-wing
content can generate. Videos about politics often attract strong opinions, heated debates, and lots of comments. Critics of this trend argue that creators have a financial incentive to cover controversial topics because they tend to get more views and shares. Looking at County Gains, it's easy to see why some people believe the move into political commentary helped the channel grow faster than music reactions ever could.
My criticism of County Gains is not that the creator has political opinions. Everyone is entitled to their views. My concern is that the channel now seems to follow a format that has become very common in online right-wing
media. Critics argue that many political creators focus heavily on stories that create anger, fear, or outrage because those emotions keep viewers engaged. Supporters would disagree with that criticism, but it's a debate that's become increasingly common across YouTube.
Another thing that strikes me is how similar some of the content feels to right-wing
commentary channels that became popular in the United States. The style often includes reacting to news stories, criticizing mainstream media, discussing culture-war topics, and presenting events through a strongly opinionated lens. In my view, County Gains appears to copy a formula that has already proven successful for a number of larger U.S right-wing
creators online.
Grift- Financial Gain Or Fake-Patriotism
At the end of the day, YouTube is a business as much as it is a platform for sharing opinions. Creators can make money from advertising, sponsorships, memberships, donations, and other sources of revenue. More views usually mean more income. Critics argue that this creates an incentive for channels to move toward content that attracts the most attention, and political commentary often does exactly that. Whether that's good or bad for public debate is something people can decide for themselves, but it's a trend that's hard to ignore.
County Gains is just one example of a much larger shift happening on YouTube. Channels that once focused on entertainment are increasingly becoming platforms for right-wing
propaganda. Some viewers see that as a positive development, while others see it as a sign that right-wing
propaganda is becoming impossible to escape online. Either way, it's a change that's worth paying attention to.
