Seán Julian steps into the spotlight with dreamy debut single Púca

There’s something quietly compelling about artists stepping out from the band dynamic and into their own space - and Seán Julian is doing exactly that. Known to many as the bassist and one of the key songwriters behind Irish rock outfit San Rocco, Julian is now carving out a lane that feels entirely his own.

Over the years, he’s been building toward this moment - experimenting, refining, and chasing a sound rooted in texture, melody, and emotional depth. What’s emerging is a sonic world that feels intimate yet expansive: hazy, dreamlike atmospheres wrapped around bursts of gritty, distorted guitar.

Now, with the release of his debut solo single púca Julian officially steps into a new chapter. It’s more than just a first release - it’s the first time he’s put his voice, quite literally, front and centre under his own name. And it lands like a statement.

púca leans heavily into a lush, nostalgic palette, pulling threads from 80s shoegaze and 90s alternative rock. It’s a mid-tempo slow burn, driven by a thick, fuzzy bassline and shimmering, modulated guitars that wash over you in waves. There’s a richness to the production that feels both vintage and immediate.

Adding another layer is guest vocalist Amy Ellen, whose airy, melodic delivery slots perfectly into the track’s dreamy aesthetic. Her presence brings a subtle contrast, elevating the song’s emotional pull without ever overpowering its core.

Lyrically, púca digs deeper than its hazy exterior might first suggest. Drawing from Irish folklore and fragments of early childhood memory, Julian explores the idea that pain isn’t something to outrun - it’s something that shapes you. The title itself references the púca, a shape-shifting figure from Irish folklore, mirroring the way memory and identity can shift and evolve over time.

It’s a strong, self-assured first step into solo territory - one that suggests Seán Julian isn’t just stepping out from the band, but stepping into something far more personal.
